Fedeli says Tories remain committed to restoring rail passenger service

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Tory government remains committed to restoring rail passenger service in Northern Ontario.

However, he notes it’s not going to be easy because the former Liberal government was very complete in its “gutting of the Northlander”.

Fedeli says when the Liberals announced the end of the Northlander, with help from the NDP, they also removed the office at union station and took out the tracks.

“So there’s a tremendous amount of work to return passenger service, but we’re committed to doing it,” he said.

Fedeli says although the Northlander itself is gone, the Tories are looking at returning passenger rail.

“We said we’re looking at returning it within our first term,” he said.
