North Bay man faces more charges in child luring case

A North Bay man charged with child luring faces more charges after North Bay police found a second female victim while continuing to investigate the case.

The 45-year-old is now also charged with child luring, making child pornography, invitation to sexual touching and making sexually explicit material available to a child all connected to the second victim.

Police say the accused came into contact with the second victim in 2013 when he started an online relationship with the girl and claimed to be a teenage boy.

Police say during the online activity, several sexually explicit images and videos that fit the description of child pornography were shared.

Police first arrested the accused this past February 19th in connection with their first investigation.

They began investigating the man last year in August with help from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber-crime Unit.

The first investigation revealed the accused began communicating with a 13-old in 2015.

Police say over time the young person shared numerous images and videos that meet the definition of child pornography.

When the man was arrested in February, several devices including a computer were seized.

Police continued their investigation which led to the discovery of the second female victim.

The lead officer in the case is Detective Constable Scott Buchanan with the Criminal Investigations Section of the North Bay Police Service.

Buchanan says investigations of this nature can be very time-consuming.

His advice to parents is they need to educate themselves with internet safety.

“In this age of technology you have to talk to your children to safeguard them when they use the internet,” Buchanan said.
