Council reducing its carbon footprint

West Nipissing council has taken a first step to reducing its carbon footprint by passing a climate change emergency resolution.

The resolution was suggested a few weeks ago by councillor Chris Fisher who says research shows more massive reductions are needed in greenhouse gas emissions.

The resolution explains that over the years, climate change has caused billions of dollars in property damage and infrastructure damage worldwide.

It also states that massive reductions are needed in carbon emissions in the next 11 years to avoid further devastating economical, ecological and societal losses.

West Nipissing will now embark on setting achievable targets as it reduces its carbon footprint.

One other point the resolution makes is climate change is jeopardizing the health of many species and people.
