Present and past police forces to be honoured with memorial plaque

West Nipissing council is making sure residents of the municipality don’t forget its police service.

Council has approved the creation of a memorial plaque that recognizes the longstanding contribution of the West Nipissing Police Service for the last 20 years following amalgamation and the decades of service before that by the Sturgeon Falls Police Service.

In total, the area has seen a police service for about 120 years.

Council has approved a plaque be created from funds in the heritage budget which has about $1,500.

With the West Nipissing police ceasing to exist as of noon June 6^th and the OPP assuming command, council wants the plaque in place before that date.

The West Nipissing Police Services Board will determine where the plaque will be placed.
