Spring melt could affect school bus routes

School bus routes in Nipissing and Parry Sound are being affected by the rain and snow runoff in several areas.

Chuck Seguin, the Executive Director of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Student Transportation Services, is telling parents and guardians to be vigilant and to access up-to-date information on conditions.

Seguin says with Nipissing District and Parry Sound District both under a flood warning, it means flooding is imminent or occurring in some municipalities and waterways.

Seguin says his agency will remain in contact with local authorities, school bus operators and the media to provide the best information possible on buses in a timely fashion.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the flood warning is in effect until at least Thursday.

With rain in the forecast coupled with more melting snow, Seguin says that will make its way to the area waterways.

Seguin is encouraging the public to keep checking the agency’s website at www.npssts plus people can also visit www.511.on.ca for roadways that have been affected by the spring runoff.
