West Nipissing police release more information with stolen vehicle incident

One of the men caught in West Nipissing in a stolen vehicle incident faces six charges for his part in the matter.

The man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, obstructing a peace officer, flight from a peace officer, failure to stop after an accident, theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order.

The Silver Hyundai was taken from Sudbury on Sunday and was headed eastbound on Highway 17.

When local police spotted the vehicle in Sturgeon Falls, the driver took off when they tried stopping it.

However, after hitting a vehicle on Holditch Street, the driver and his passenger abandoned the vehicle on Levesque Street and fled on foot.

A K9 unit and ERT squad were called to help search for both men and later on Sunday police got word about a suspicious man in Cache Bay.

Police say they connected this man with the stolen vehicle and arrested him.

Their investigation continues as does the search for the second man.
