SIU investigating police shooting in Sudbury

A police shooting in Sudbury has resulted in a probe by the Special Investigations Unit.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of an Esso gas station at 1813 Regent Street around 10:45pm Wednesday.

Police were on the scene because they got information about an armed robbery taking place in another community and saw the vehicle in question at the gas station.

Sudbury police say the 22-year-old man was injured when police tried to arrest him.

The SIU says the injury was the result of police interaction with the man when one of the officers shot the individual.

The SIU adds the man was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Because the SIU is now on the case, the Sudbury Police can no longer comment on the matter.

The SIU has assigned five investigators and two forensic investigators to the case.

If any member of the public has information about the case, they are asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

Additionally, anyone with video of the event can upload it through the SIU website by clicking this link.
