Voters in West Nipissing will have another political party to consider when they vote in Nickel Belt in October’s federal election.
The People’s Party of Canada intends to have a riding association in place in Nickel Belt in time for the fall election.
Two ridings in Northeastern Ontario already have PPC riding associations.
They are Parry Sound-Muskoka and Nipissing-Timiskaming which was given authorization earlier this week by Elections Canada to form its association.
Work is underway to form similar associations in Sudbury, Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing, Timmins-James Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
Former Conservative and Quebec MP Maxime Bernier is behind the new party movement.
He said he would create a new party when he left the Conservative Party last year shortly after finishing second in the Tory leadership race.
