Carbon tax takes effect Monday in Ontario; First brick-and-mortar cannabis stores to open

Carbon tax takes effect Monday in four provinces including Ontario

The first brick-and-mortar cannabis stores are set to open in Ontario Monday, but it remains to be seen just how many will be ready to serve customers.

The Progressive Conservative government had planned to have 25 stores across the province launch today, but some are still working through a lengthy approval process. So far, recreational cannabis has only been available for purchase legally in Ontario through a government-run website.

Report: Some Liberal MPs upset with fellow party members over SNC-Lavalin affair

Sources say some Liberal MPs have grown increasingly upset with two of their caucus colleagues for continuing to fan the flames of the SNC-Lavalin controversy, and have been quietly discussing among themselves how to deal with the pair.

The expectation now is that caucus members will insist on expelling resigned cabinet ministers Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott at their next meeting on Wednesday, or earlier if an emergency meeting is called.
