Four men who saved North Bay woman from burning home to be nominated for awards

The four North Bay men who helped an elderly woman escape her burning home on Kingsway Avenue could be up for awards.

North Bay Police Constable Aaron Northrup plans to nominate the four because he believes their actions saved the woman’s life.

Northrup says Monday’s fire saw three Public Works employees on the street spring into action when they came upon the burning home.

“They grabbed a fire extinguisher from their truck but it ran out so they took shovels and threw snow on the fire until the North Bay Fire Department arrived,” Northrup said.

“The firefighters were there fairly quickly and did a professional job but the city guys did a great job containing the fire.”

Northrup says the other nomination he plans to make is for paramedic Franco Tignanelli.

“Franco was off-duty and went in (the burning house) and brought the lady out,” Northrup said.

“He gave her attention until the actual ambulance crew got there.  I’ll be nominating him for a provincial bravery award.”

Northrup says Tignanelli went above the call of duty by going into a burning home.

He says the elderly woman had mobility issues and strongly believes the action of all four men Monday morning saved her life.
