Double left-hand turning lanes coming to Seymour and Highway 11/17

After years of planning, the intersection of Seymour and Highway 11/17 will finally be widened.

Construction calls for double left-hand turning lanes to be added on both sides of Seymour for traffic turning onto the highway and a double left-turn lane for southbound highway traffic making the turn toward the industrial and commercial businesses on Seymour.

The single left-hand lane for highway traffic coming from Callander will not be widened.

The project is to ease traffic flow through the area especially during rush hours when there are long lines of vehicles trying to turn left either off the highway or onto the highway.

The Seymour area is also seeing businesses expand so the additional turning lanes should help accommodate the extra traffic.

During construction, all lanes on Seymour and Highway11/17 will be reduced so crews can carry out their work.

However, traffic will continue to move in both directions although city hall says there may be delays.

The project is worth $6.6 million and is a joint effort by the City of North Bay and the Ministry of Transportation.

Work is expected to start in early April and should be completed during the summer of 2020.

City Hall will hold an open house on April 9th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the main lobby so the public can see what the project entails in more detail.

Government officials and project work members will also be on hand to answer questions.

The reconstruction project will be carried out by Teranorth Construction and Engineering of Sudbury.

The company had the lowest bid in a public tendering process.
