Speeding incident leads to drug and loaded weapon seizure

North Bay OPP lucked into drug seizure after stopping a vehicle for speeding in Callander.

Police say they became suspicious of the driver while talking to him around 11:30pm Tuesday and arrested both him and his passenger.

OPP then searched the vehicle and found cocaine and marijuana with a street value of about $27,000.

They also found a loaded gun.

Both men are 22 and residents of Barrie.

Among the numerous charges both men face are possession of a loaded or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Each also faces drug-related offences including possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.

The man who was driving is also charged with speeding, driving while suspended and having a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
