NBMCA says snow depth drops 16 cm in one week

The snow is melting away a little at a time.

Measurements by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority show that the region has lost an average of 16.4 centimetres of snow over a one-week time frame.

The period spans March 14th to March 22nd and includes the three sites the NBMCA uses as measurement stations.

At the North Bay Golf and Country Club, the snow depth on March 14th was 95.3 cm and dropped to 77.8 cm when another reading was made on March 22nd.

The survey station at the Corbeil Conservation Area saw the snow depth go from 89.9 cm to 70.1 cm over the same period while the Shirley Skinner Conservation Area in Chisholm recorded a snow depth of 87.2 cm and then one week later registered a depth of 75.3 cm.

Individually, the greatest amount of melting took place at the Corbeil station while the least amount was recorded in Chisholm.

The NBMCA is planning weekly measurements as it keeps watch on the risk of flooding as day time temperatures start warming up.
