North Bay nearly wins national sports award

It was oh so close, but in the end, Edmonton beat out North Bay for a major national sporting award.

North Bay was in the running for the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Prestige Award after hosting last year’s Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.

The city had been nominated for the award as were Edmonton and Vancouver.

Edmonton ultimately took home the crown for holding last year’s Grey Cup.

However, North Bay was runner-up.

Vancouver was also in the running for its role in the Canadian National Figure Skating Championships.

The awards ceremony took place Wednesday afternoon in Ottawa.

Mayor Al McDonald attended the event and says although North Bay didn’t win it was an honour just to be nominated for such a prestigious award.
