Police say identity fraudsters diverted victim’s mail

West Nipissing Police are trying to find the people who stole a Verner man’s identity and in the process, went on a credit card shopping spree.

Police say the people behind the fraud first had the young man’s mail diverted to a city in Southern Ontario.

Once they began collecting his mail and got his personal information, they had enough knowledge about the man that they were able to successfully apply for several credit cards.

With the cards in their possession, the culprits began racking up purchases while the Verner man had no idea this was happening.

When he learned that his identity had been stolen he contacted the credit bureau which put a stop to anyone accessing his information.
