Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is trying to calm fears that the creation of a Super Health Agency will cause more problems than it solves.
The Ford government plans to replace numerous health services including the regional Local Health Integration Networks with the one system.
The move has worried groups like the Ontario Health Coalition which believe the loss of services like the LHINs mean people lose their regional voice.
However, Fedeli says what they should be most concerned about is the patient.
Fedeli says the proposed Tory legislation puts patients first and ends hallway medicine.
“We want a system that’s centred around the patient,” he said.
“We will redirect the money right into frontline services because that’s where it belongs. This is all about the better patient experience and patient care.”
Fedeli says the changes the Tories hope to bring about with what he calls a modernization of the health care system will take time.
Fedeli says it’s the government’s intention to listen to the people who make up the frontlines in health.
“We’re going to listen to the nurses, the doctors and care providers,” he said.
“Our whole plan will be about improving the patient experience and providing better-connected care for the patient. Everything we do puts the patient at the centre.”
