Community Living North Bay to launch Respect campaign

Community Living North Bay has organized a special event for next Wednesday in an effort to get people to use more respectful language.

It’s setting up a pledge station at the Northgate Shopping Centre and encouraging people to take the pledge as part of its Respect campaign.

The agency supports people with intellectual disabilities and says everyone should be treated with dignity and respect.

Community Living wants to see people become more accepting of others and help bring about a more inclusive society.

It says the language people use affects attitudes and attitudes affect peoples’ actions.

Community Living already has several partners pledging to show respect.

They include the three English-language public high schools, St. Joseph Scollard Hall and École secondaire catholique Algonquin.

Other partners ate Paddle, the EarlyOn Child and Family Centre, Nipissing University Student Union and Nipissing/Canadore Best Buddies.

The official launch takes place at 9:00am.
