Nipissing victims’ services agencies in line for more money

The Ontario Federation of Labour says the Ford government is cutting funding to sexual assault centres.

However, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says that’s not the case.

Fedeli says the Ministry of the Attorney General is putting an additional $1 million towards sexual assault centres across the province for 2019-2020.

He says this takes the funding to $15.8 million.

In addition, Fedeli says three victims’ services centres in Nipissing will share $170,000.

The Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre receives the largest share of the grant at $86,718.

The next largest amounts at $50,500 is headed to the Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing followed by $32,500 for Nipissing Transition House.

Fedeli says the centres across the province offer free, confidential and specialized support services to survivors of sexual violence.
