Ontario Northland inks long-term collective agreement with largest local

Ontario Northland may find it a little easier to get new contracts.

The pathway to new work is the result of a long-term contract the transportation company has secured with its largest union local.

The workers of Unifor Local 103 have ratified a five-year deal with the ONTC by a huge majority.

Both labour and management are on the same side when it comes to more work.

Corrina Moore, President and CEO of Ontario Northland, says the five-year contract creates stability for the workers and gives the company a competitive advantage.

Unifor Local 103 president Andy Mitchell says the employees turned out in large numbers and solidly supported the tentative deal.

Mitchel adds now Ontario Northland can go after long-term contracts.

Moore agrees and she plans to share the agreement Ontario Northland has with Unifor with present and potential customers.

Local 103 is made up of more than 350 employees.

It represents clerical staff, on-board service, supply stores, a hotel and shops at various sites spread across Northern Ontario.
