Free ice fishing this long weekend

Lake Nipissing experiences an annual event this weekend with the return of free ice fishing as Ontarians celebrate the Family Day long weekend.

Beginning Saturday and into Monday, no license is needed to fish on Lake Nipissing or any other lake in Ontario.

The event is to encourage people to try fishing and to get them outdoors.

However, even though anglers don’t need a fishing license for the next three days, other rules like daily catch limits still apply.

The free fishing during the Family Day long weekend is one of four free fishing experiences the provincial government has planned this year.

Free fishing will also be allowed during Mother’s Day weekend on May 11th and 12th and Father’s Day weekend on June 15th and 16th.

The last free fishing event is Family Fishing Week scheduled for June 29th to July 7th.
