Council to discuss several issues at regular meeting including cannabis shops

Cannabis and where to sell the drug in West Nipissing is one of several issues council will discuss Tuesday evening.

A council committee has already ruled out several areas where shops selling the drug cannot locate.

Among the no-sell zones, are areas near schools, daycare centres, health-related facilities and churches.

Also excluded from the choice of sites is cannabis cannot be sold in any municipally-owned building in West Nipissing.

A motion dealing with the locations is up for a vote during the regular meeting.

Council is also expected to add no vaping to its no-smoking by-law.

Another issue council will debate is lowering the speed limit on Golf Couse Road and Goulard Road.

A proposal calls for the limit to be reduced to 50 kilometres an hour from the present 70 km/h.

The Tuesday meeting is also expected to have a new look in terms of camera angles.

The camera provided by the Eastlink cable broadcast will be located at the back of the council chambers and provide one continuous shot of the meeting from beginning to end and a full view of all participants at all times.

The Livestream camera will be operated by staff when zooming into a delegation at the podium that is addressing members of council.

The changes are being introduced to resolve audio issues of some past council meetings where the meeting only saw the video picked up and not the audio.
