Lower oil may mean cheaper asphalt next year

For now North Bay won’t see any savings on asphalt as a result of the falling price of oil.  But pressed by city councillor Mike Anthony on the issue, staff agree the product could be cheaper next spring when asphalt plants re-open.  Cheaper asphalt became an issue when George Maroosis asked the question last week if lower oil also meant cheaper asphalt.  At the time council was approving a $78,000 cold asphalt contract with Pioneer Contracting for winter road work.  Because that tender went out some time back, lower oil prices won’t affect it at this time.
