Duchesnay Creek Bridge closed due to safety concerns: MTO

The MTO is confirming the Duchesnay Creek Bridge on Highway 17B between downtown North Bay and Couchie Memorial Drive will be closed indefinitely.

The bridge, recently inspected by engineers to check for structural issues in preparation of a bridge replacement this fall is being shut down due to safety concerns.

Officials say the bridge will be closed to all traffic later today.

The Ministry of Transportation wishes to advise that Highway 17B at the Duchesnay Creek Bridge crossing, located 0.8 km east of Highway 17 will be closed at 7:00 pm January 29, 2019.

Public safety is the ministry’s top priority. To ensure [the] safety of the travelling public, the Duchesnay Creek Bridge will be closed until further notice. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced this year. A short detour is available via Highway 17.
