Deadline to apply for summer jobs grant approaching

Time is running out for businesses and groups in Nickel Belt to apply for the federal government’s summer jobs program.

MP Marc Serre is strongly urging employers access the wage subsidy program and do it quickly because the deadline to apply is this Friday.

Under the program, private-sector and public sector employees are eligible to receive half of the Ontario minimum hourly wage.

A non-profit group will have the workers’ hourly minimum wage covered to a full 100 percent.

Elements of the program have changed including the addition of non-students.

Now people age 15 to 30 are eligible for the summer jobs program.
