A freelance travel writer from Toronto makes the case for why the government should bring back the Northlander.  The Toronto to Cochrane train was cancelled last year as part of the province’s plan to sells ONTC assets.  In his book Rails Across Ontario, Ron Brown addresses the selloff of Ontario Northland. Brown says the Northlander wasn’t well used so it was shutdown.  But he points out we don’t close northern highways when they’re not heavily travelled.  Brown adds our highways are just as expensive to maintain as rail.
