Tod named new North Bay Police Chief

It hasn’t taken long for the North Bay Police Service to find a new police chief.

The board named Deputy Chief Scott Tod as Shawn Devine’s replacement at the monthly police board meeting on Tuesday.

The board met in camera before the start of the regular meeting to formally make its decision and made the announcement during the meeting.

Tod, who is the former deputy commissioner of the OPP, was appointed deputy in January 2016.

The exact timeline for him to formally assume the role of chief has not been determined yet.

That depends on Devine’s last day on the job.

Devine says officially his last day will be June 30th, but he’ll be leaving before that date to take back vacation time.

However, Devine is not leaving policing altogether.

He’s assuming the role of executive director of the Ontario Police Technology Information Co-operative.

The organization is based in Toronto, meaning Devine will be travelling but he will also be able to do work from his North Bay home so he’s not moving.

With Tod taking over as chief, the search is now on for his replacement as deputy.

Police board chair Dennis O’Connor hopes to have a new deputy in place within a couple of months.

O’Connor says that individual will either come from within the North Bay police ranks or from the outside.

Devine announced his retirement as chief in mid-December.
