Serre says funding for climate change projects now available

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre hopes small municipalities, businesses and groups take part in a federal program to help bring down greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is the Low Carbon Economy Challenge and applications to it are now being accepted through the Minister of Environment and Climate Change department.

Serre says the program is designed to help develop new technologies that bring down greenhouse gas emissions and also create new jobs.

The federal government announced the $500-million program on December 20th.

Serre says interested groups have until March 8th to submit an application.

Other groups that can apply are First Nations and non-profit organizations.

As for the nature of the size of the businesses that can apply, Serre says they are limited to small and medium-sized.

Serre says more information about the program is available on the Low Carbon Economy Challenge website.
