Union Gas pursues economic opportunities in Northern Ontario

Union Gas may be Northern Ontario’s answer to affordable power.  The utility is working on delivering liquefied gas to northern mines instead of having them powered through expensive hydro transmission lines.  That’s what Union Gas President Steve Baker told the North Bay chamber of commerce Thursday night.  Baker says Ontario has a hard time attracting companies because electricity has become very expensive and will only keep going up.  But thanks to new supplies of natural gas, prices have come down dramatically and this could be a new source of power for mining companies.
