Health unit has vaccination reminder for parents with students in schools

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reminding parents to make sure their sons and daughters are vaccinated.

Failure to do that could result in suspension from school.

Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students aged four to 17 must have been inoculated in order to attend school.

The health unit will be in contact with the various school boards to ensure compliance with the act.

The health unit says high school students who are not up-to-date with their immunizations will get notices in the near future.

It says parents have until March 6th to show their children have received the proper shots which avoids suspension.

The health unit says the specific shots high school students need are for diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, meningitis, measles, mumps, and rubella.

The health unit says if parents have had or will have their children inoculated by a family doctor, make sure the healthcare provider forwards the updated information to the agency.

Go to www.myhealthunit.ca/reportvaccines to review or update vaccination records.

For more information call the health unit at 474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808 ext. 5252.
