SIU clears Sudbury cop

The Special Investigations Unit says a Sudbury police officer did not use excessive force when a man broke his collarbone during an arrest.

The SIU says the man gave police no option but to run after him when he ran from them last year in November.

The man was sleeping in a vehicle in Lowe’s parking lot when police woke him up.

However, rather than get out, the man started backing up and ran into a storage shed.

He then ran from the vehicle with the officer in pursuit.

The officer caught the man and both went down with the cop landing on the man breaking his collarbone.

The man was taken to hospital and the SIU says the officer did not use more force than was necessary to catch someone running from him.
