Residents of West Nipissing should keep in mind that the well-known No Smoking signs are being updated.
In addition to the restriction on smoking, which includes cannabis, people also cannot vape in public buildings.
The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit has the new signs available for free.
They can be picked up at 345 Oak Street West in North Bay.
Under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, all public buildings have to post the updated signs and that includes outside public washrooms.
So that the public can get used to the legislation, a grace period will be in place.
However, once the grace period is up and the new signs are posted, violators could face fines as high as $250 dollars plus a $50 victim surcharge and court cost of $5 for first-time offenders.
The fines would escalate if the same person is caught breaking the law on subsequent occasions.
