What started as a concerned resident’s call to police about someone living in a vehicle in North Bay’s west end has turned into something much bigger.
When police arrived, not only were a man and woman in the vehicle, they discovered the $47,000 vehicle had been stolen from Southern Ontario and that the couple had a 12-gauge shotgun in their possession plus ammunition.
Police believe the shotgun was stolen somewhere in the Sturgeon Falls area and are still trying to identify the owner.
As for the couple, one is a 36-year-old woman from Sturgeon Falls and the man is a 30-year-old North Bay resident.
Both are charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Additionally, the man faces charges of possession of ammunition while prohibited and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
The man is also looking at a charge of possession of a controlled substance after police found eight methamphetamine pills in his pockets.
