Alliance Centre prepares for National Addictions Week

The Alliance Centre in West Nipissing is ready for next week’s National Addictions Week.

This year’s theme is All Walks of Life.

What makes this year’s event different from past addictions awareness weeks is it’s the first time cannabis use is legal in Canada.

The centre will have workshops in place to give people information about cannabis use.

Spokesman Michael Taylor says this way people can make an informed decision regarding substance use.

“We don’t condone the use,” Taylor said.

“But if you are (going to use) use wisely.  There’s no risk if there’s no use and then the risk starts to go up from there.”

Since cannabis use is now legal, some people have been asking the question about getting behind the wheel of a car or truck after they’ve been smoking up.

Taylor’s response to this is “any cannabis use can produce an impaired or compromised state, so I would suggest anybody using cannabis not drive at all”.

Moose FM will have more on this topic during National Addictions Week.
