SIU says no grounds to have North Bay police officer charged

A North Bay police officer won’t have to worry about being charged after a woman police arrested was seriously injured.

The incident took place last year in September and involved a 49-year-old woman who got into a dispute with neighbours and children.

Two days after her arrest the woman complained about a cracked vertebra and concussion.

However, the Special Investigations Unit couldn’t find any evidence of an injury despite a CT scan and a doctor examining the woman.

What the SIU did find was that according to witnesses, the woman was uncooperative toward the police and that the officer treated her with respect.

The SIU says there are no reasonable grounds to charge the officer.
