West Nipissing starts preparing for incoming council

West Nipissing Mayor Joanne Savage says the outgoing council had a challenging term.

She says there were blips along the way but there were also many positive outcomes that will benefit residents of the municipality.

Savage says the current council saw $27-million spent on capital works projects and these are tangible matters “that the people get to enjoy for many years”.

The Mayor adds that thanks to about $10-million in grants, that money was applied to areas like recreation, public works and water and sewage.

Savage also says there were many improvements in all the communities across the municipality.

“We look at parks, water parks, playgrounds, skating rinks and the list goes on,” Savage said.

This evening would have been the last meeting for the council because it was originally scheduled to meet for a regular committee of the whole session.

However since the new council takes over December 1st, the present council opted to cancel its last meeting.

Savage thanked the councillors for their years of service and the councillors also thanked their colleagues and staff since most of them won’t be back.

Five of the eight wards will be represented by new councillors as of next week on Saturday.
