Verner residents are closer to getting their outdoor rink.
Although several earlier options were considered by West Nipissing staff to create the rink, they were deemed too complex and costly to implement.
Staff have now come up with an alternative.
The rink is next to the arena and plans are to move ahead with a water line that a rink attendant can access from outside the building.
In addition, although the rink has no boards, snowbanks will be created and hardened with water.
The rink will also be equipped with enough lighting to create a safe skating environment.
The total project was budgeted at $10,000 and that includes the cost of acquiring a snow blower.
Staff will monitor rink usage to see if any improvements are needed in the future.
All that remains is to post for the rink attendant.
The cost to outfit the rink is a one-time expense minus the cost of the attendant’s salary.
