Tories fight with NDP over flu vaccine

The NDP are at odds with the governing Ford government over supplies of the flu vaccine.

New Democrats says they contacted 20 clinics in Ontario and 12 of them don’t have the seniors’ version of the flu vaccine or have run out.

Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says the increased risk to seniors of serious complications from the flu is not something to be taken lightly.

“Seniors can’t even seem to get the flu shot the government is promoting,” Vanthof said in the Legislature.

However Health Minister Christine Elliott says the government has spent $54 million on the flu vaccine to create an adequate supply of the flu-fighting drug.

“We’ll make sure the public is protected against the flu shot and other health issues that they’ll be faced with,” Elliott said in response.
