The North Bay OPP say now is a good time for motorists to replace their summer or all season tires with winter tires.
Monday’s snow resulted in eight collisions for the North Bay OPP cluster between 7:00am to 11:00am.
Community Services Officer Shona Camirand says the collisions were weather related and she can’t stress enough for motorists to drive according to conditions.
Camirand says winter tires don’t work the same as all season tires.
The rubber compound they’re made from makes the tires ideal for colder weather.
In addition, Camirand says the stopping distance of a car with winter tires can be 30 to 40 percent shorter than with vehicles using all season tires on snowy, cold or icy pavements.
“So it’s really important to change your all seasons or summer tires to winter tires,” Camirand said.
