Barkfest proves to be big success for North Bay and District Humane Society

The second Barkfest Microchip Day held by the North Bay and District Humane Society attracted more pets to be injected than a first event in June.

Brett Greene who is the society’s Manager of Fundraising and Fund Development, says 62 pets were injected with microchips in June while this past weekend 67 dogs and cats were injected.

Greene says 50 dogs had microchips put in them and 17 cats.

Greene says the number of people who showed up with their pets was more than expected and overwhelming.

He say staff was expecting to install microchips in slightly more than 40 pets.

Greene says the sheer number of people who showed up made for a very busy and also a very successful event.

The society plans to hold another microchip day next June.

The chips let the society get a lost dog or cat back to its owner because the microchip contains personal information on the owner and where the lost dog or cat lives.
