Mayor Joanne Savage not surprised by high turnover in council seats

If there was one message Mayor Joanne Savage heard during the municipal election campaign it was people wanted change.

And in West Nipissing, that’s what voters delivered.

Five of the eight wards will be represented by new councillors although the ward formerly held by Guilles Tessier was certain to see a new councillor since Tessier chose not to seek re-election.

So when five new people were named to council, Savage told Moose News she wasn’t surprised.

The present council will finish out its term and the new council term begins December 1st.

Once Savage and the eight councillors are sworn in, the Mayor says there’s a short period where everyone is acquainted with the rules.

Savage also says the new council has a lot of work ahead of itself.

Some of that work is the adaption of a communication protocol where the Mayor says the municipality will engage the citizens of West Nipissing and keep them well informed.

She says work will also continue with the partners and stakeholders of West Nipissing.
