Off leash dog park to open in North Bay

North Bay is getting the first of what may be three off-leash dog parks. A ground breaking ceremony was held on Wednesday at Champlain Park where a one acre site for both large and small dogs will be built. The North Bay and District Humane Society has pushed for the facility for more than three years. Spokesman Daryl Vaillancourt says donations are keeping the cost to $10,000-thouand otherwise the facility would easily have cost $80,000 A major reason for the low cost is some businesses are doing the work, like clearing the area of trees and brush, for free. If winter holds off, the park will be complete this fall, otherwise it will open next spring. Vaillancourt says the goal is to build more dog parks perhaps one at the north end of town and a third in the west-end.
