Delinquent First Nations told to comply with new law

The federal government is serious about getting First Nation band councils to comply with the First Nations Financial Transparency Act. It’s reminding about 100 chiefs and councils across the country to comply with the Act. So far about 77 percent are following the new law which gives First Nation residents on reserves the right to see how their councils spend money. Aboriginal Affairs minister Bernard Valcourt says delinquent First Nations could lose new and non-essential funding if they ignore the law.
