John Vanthof, the MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane, says contrary to public perceptions, the Progressive Conservative government is anything but pro-business.
The New Democrat was reacting to how the new government has acted during its first 100 days of power and he says it’s not a positive record.
Vanthof says by tearing up past Liberal government policies and programs, the Ford government is creating an anti-business climate in Ontario.
Vanthof says the government has already lost one court challenge with Tesla meaning taxpayers are on the hook for any costs associated with the case.
“But the court cases aren’t just about taxpayers paying each time the Tories lose,” Vanthof said.
“There’s also the question of credibility. Investors across the world are going to look at this and say really? Do we want to invest in Ontario because it doesn’t seem as stable as we thought it was.”
Vanthof believes “the knee-jerk reactions” of the Tories during their first several month in power is resulting in a loss of business confidence in the province.
