Add one more affordable housing unit in North Bay

North Bay has another affordable housing unit.

It’s the former Marshall Park Elementary School.

The federal and provincial governments contributed $3.1 million to repurpose the school and the money created 42 units.

In total the building has 56 one and two bedroom apartments and bachelor units.

One of the tenants at the re-purposed building is Ted Meggs.

Ted Meggs moved into Marshall Park Living during mid-August and says the facility is first class

He sold his home on Campbell Avenue in West Ferris and moved into Marshall Park Living in mid-August.

He told Moose News the apartments are first class and there are loads of features.

They include a community garden, a library and a backyard with a fire pit.

Meggs says he’s already made a number of new friends.

He lives on the third floor and all of the tenants on that floor get together on a regular basis.

Meggs is single but rents a two bedroom apartment because he gets regular visits from out-of-town family members.

He pays $860 a month plus hydro which he says is very affordable.

On Friday, Marshall Park Living was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included all the parties that made the building a reality.
