Man fined $1,000 for fishing during off season

A man from New Liskeard won’t be able to fish on any lake in Ontario for one year after being convicted of fishing during the off season.

The man was found guilty of catching and keeping two walleye from Lady Evelyn Lake about two weeks after the fishing season ended.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry became aware of the incident when images of the man’s catch were posted online.

Conservation Officers located the man and at first he said he had caught the walleye in a lake where the season hadn’t end yet.

He changed his story and admitted to fishing in Lady Evelyn Lake after he was shown the online images.
