West Nipissing buying land to house new OPP building

West Nipissing has begun the next process to replace the municipal police with the OPP.

It’s directed staff to start finalizing an Agreement of Purchase and Sale for about five acres of land in Springer Township.

The land is owned by Anna Rose Arcand and is located on Levac Road.

It’s here the OPP would build a new facility to patrol West Nipissing.

The purchase price for the acreage is $70,000.

The municipality is buying the land after the Ontario Civilian Police Commission said the municipal police can be disbanded.

However, the West Nipissing Police Services Board has a hearing coming up that examines the process council used to switch to the OPP.

The board is hoping the courts can reverse council’s decision which would trigger a restart in the process to switch to the OPP.
