Vanthof critical of Fedeli over natural gas extension cancellation

Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof is critical of Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli for helping to cancel a natural gas extension in North Bay.

Vanthof says instead of standing with Premier Doug Ford and axing the project, Fedeli should be supporting the project.

The issue involves the province removing $8.6 million that would have extended natural gas to about 350 households in the area of Trout Lake.

Vanthof says families signed up for the project but now the Premier “blindsided” them by cancelling it.

The New Demcrat says money for the project was approved well before it was cancelled and it’s another example of the Premier changing the rules in the middle of the game.

Vanthof is calling on Fedeli to stand up for families in Nipissing and further that he should tell Ford to honour the gas extension.

Vanthof points out that the City of North Bay has spent a year on this project and has been involved with the Ontario Energy Board to have the project approved.

But he says with the cancellation, Ford has cost the City of North Bay time and money.

Vanthof says it’s unacceptable that Fedeli is saying nothing about the issue that involves his own constituents.
