A 28-year-old man has died while hiking in the Jocko River area and the Special Investigations Unit is trying to determine if police involvement led to the man’s death.
The SIU says the victim was hiking with a friend on Saturday over the long weekend when the friend called 9 1 1 to say his friend had fallen and needed help.
An officer with the North Bay OPP was the first emergency responder and applied first aid.
Moments later fire and ambulance personnel arrived and took over.

However the SIU says the man died at the scene.
The SIU investigates deaths and serious injuries where police interacted with the victim and it will try to determine if the officer somehow contributed to the man’s death.
