Debate is on to extend Sandhill Road in Sturgeon Falls

Staff at the West Nipissing town hall will have more information for council on what’s involved to extend Sandhill Road in Sturgeon Falls.

The cul de sac needs less than 100 yards to be a through street.

The extension would end the need for large vehicles like plows, garbage trucks and school buses to keep using a turnaround at the end of the block to get back onto main traffic.

However before any decisions are made, staff wants to confirm that a landowner in the affected area will cost share the extension as some councillors said he would.

What council doesn’t want to see happen is it carries out the work 100 percent at its own expense and then the landowner profits from the municipality’s labour because as one councillor pointed out, the extension opens the street to developing six lots.

Staff has a good idea of what the extension will cost.

However they won’t make the dollar amount public in case the municipality has to tender the work and staff don’t want to tip their hand.
