Rival hockey league founder surprised by Mattawa Blackhawks development

The founder and president of a rival junior hockey league hopes giving the Mattawa Blackhawks of the NOJHL to outsiders is good news. The outsiders are Al Donnan and his business partner Patrick Geary who are part of the Greater Metro Hockey League. In the past Hockey Canada, of which the NOJHL is part of, has told its members not to associate with outlaw leagues like Greater Metro. Tim Clayden, the founder of the new Canadian International Hockey League is surprised by the announcement but hopes it signals a change at Hockey Canada and all players benefit. Last week the league yanked the Blackhawks franchise away from David Beauchamp. Moose News called the NOJHL for its side of the story but the league commissioner did not return our call.
